Why I Started With Men's Mental Health and Why Natural Light Counseling Is Growing
When I started Natural Light Counseling, I had a pretty clear mission: create a space where men could feel comfortable talking about things they were often encouraged to keep to themselves.
For generations, men have been conditioned to be strong, independent, emotionally reserved, and capable of handling whatever life throws their way. While there's certainly value in resilience and independence, there's also a cost when those qualities prevent us from asking for help.
I wanted to challenge that narrative.
I wanted men to understand that seeking therapy doesn't make them less capable, less masculine, or less resilient. In fact, I believe the opposite is often true.
As my practice has grown, so has my perspective on the people I want to serve.
The truth is, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the general difficulties of being human aren't exclusive to any gender. Neither is the desire to feel understood, supported, and connected.
That's why Natural Light Counseling is expanding to welcome adults of all gender identities.
This isn't a departure from my original mission. Advocacy for men's mental health remains incredibly important to me and will continue to be a meaningful part of my work. Rather, this is a natural evolution of a practice built around authenticity, connection, and quality mental health care.
At the end of the day, good therapy isn't about fitting someone into a particular category. It's about building a relationship where people feel comfortable showing up as themselves.
And that's exactly what I hope to continue building.
